It all started in a classroom with nothing but a vision...
The original concept of Safe Havens, envisaged and conceived by young people themselves started back in 2006. The initial ideas, summed up by Ofsted as “a virtual and actual place of refuge where victims of bullying receive counselling and support” have developed great lengths.
Safe Havens was first established at its founding home; a partnership between Wath Comprehensive School and Wath Young People's Centre, Rotherham in December 2006, after serious concerns raised in the school community by young people, staff and parents regarding the nature of the extent and severity of bullying in school. It is important to remember it is young people who have done something about it!
Since then the concept has enhanced, offering more advanced support to young people with a wider range of issues affecting their mental health and emotional well-being.
The model is now being adopted by many more Secondary Schools and Young People's Centres as more people are inspired and impassioned by our work and are committed to making a real difference.
